The Hanoi Flag Tower

The Vietnamese people call the Hanoi Flag Tower Cot Co, I don't know what Cot Co means but I think it means Hanoi Flag Tower. When I saw the Hanoi Flag Tower I thought it looked very old because it looked pretty dirty but not the flag, and in fact it is really old because I don't know an person who knows when the Hanoi Flag Tower was built so I think it was built a very long time ago. In the 1890s the French army invaded Vietnam and destroyed everything except the Hanoi Flag Tower because the French wanted to use the Hanoi Flag Tower as a observation tower and also communication station. The tower is next to the Military History Museum in the citadel. Some bits of shot down military war tanks and war planes from the war against the French and the Americans where in the Military History Museum. When I walked through the bits of shot down military tanks and war planes I thought maybe we shouldn't have decided to boss the Vietnamese around because I felt bad that we destroyed mostly everything. If you want you can climb up on the tower to the terrace and take a good look at the army headquarters.

  1. Yve! Nice post... you sure are learning a lot about history while you are there. What did the twins do while you were checking out the airplane? Did they want to climb up there with you? -Steff

  2. Yve, I was talking to my cousin today who fought in the war in Vietnam. I told him of all the cool stuff you were seeing. He said he really like the people there but the war was horrible. Terry
